A few months ago I was a secondary school physics teacher. Slogging it out 70 hours a week for little gain and even less thanks.
During the hours I did have to myself I was mentally and physically exhausted and the idea of doing anything too active churned my stomach. Instead I was becoming the Queen of Netflix box sets and a regular face at the local convenience store, purchasing a ping-meal because the thought of cooking sometimes ruined me. When I did get out to do something I enjoyed there was a nagging teacher voice in my head telling me to go home to mark books and plan lessons for the week ahead. It was constant. Don't get me wrong, I loved being a teacher and I had some fantastic students. But teacher life for the next 30 years? No thank you, not now. Life is for living.
Today I'm finally doing something I love, travelling. Visiting new places every day, meeting new people, experiencing new things, eating new foods. I don't know where I will be tomorrow, never mind next week, and the only planning required consists of a quick glance on Booking.com and looking at a local bus, boat or train timetable. 'Work' is writing my blog, and there is nothing easier than writing about something you are engrossed in every day.
I hope you enjoy it!
